Engineering Inc. magazine showcases The Flats on the national stage

WILMINGTON, DE — Landmark Science & Engineering, one of the region’s largest integrated civil engineering and environmental sciences consulting firms, announced that their project submission for The Flats of Wilmington was selected as one of the top four urban renewal projects nationwide by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) to be featured in the July-August, 2015 edition of Engineering, Inc. magazine. The special multi-project feature includes the story of The Flats, entitled “Remaking a Century-Old Housing Development.

”Ted Williams, president of Landmark, and project manager for planning and site design for this multi-phase construction project was interviewed for the article by the magazine’s staff writer. “Renovation was considered, but functional obsolescence, lack of energy efficiency, and small, outdated floor plans served as driving forces for redevelopment,” Williams said.

“Unlike many affordable housing projects, The Flats focuses on common green areas and has an emphasis on energy savings, water conservation and previously nonexistent storm-water management.”

The design team also includes Architectural Alliance, MacIntosh Engineering, and Blake & Vaughn. DiSabationo Construction has started Phase I construction.Ted Williams, PE is a member of the ACEC College of Fellows and from 2012-2013 he served as the National Chairman of ACEC in Washington, DC ACEC is known as the voice of America’s engineering industry.
