In 1944 while serving aboard the USS Terror fighting in the South Pacific my father was wounded/disabled. The Navy patched him up the best they could (in 1944) and sent him home. My family lived with the realities of a disabled father/husband as we not only witnessed his daily physical pain, but the toll these limitations had on his mental health. Today there is a veteran’s group we choose to support in his honor. Homes For Our Troops builds and donates specially adapted, mortgage-free, custom homes nationwide to our most severely injured post – 911 Veterans. They have dedicated themselves to restoring some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed while defending our country. This enables our heroes to focus on their family, recovery and rebuilding their lives. Despite their life-altering injuries, many of these veterans; embark on new careers, complete college degrees, start families and embrace their roles as motivational speakers sharing their message of preserving through tragedy, bringing awareness to Veteran suicide, homelessness and PTSD. On November 3rd 2017 we sponsored a Benefit/Awareness Dinner and fundraising kickoff with a $10,000 goal. One month later we are proudly 1/3 of the way there.
