Michael Graves Architecture & Design’s work at Newark Museum wins 2018 Downtown NJ Award

As the Newark Museum’s architect for over 50 years, Michael Graves Architecture & Design (MGA&D) has focused on revitalizing the city through architecture and the arts. Recipient of a 2018 Downtown New Jersey Award, the recently completed renovation that re-opened the Museum’s historic front entrance demonstrates that even a seemingly small project can have a significant impact on the city’s downtown. The Museum received the Award on November 2, 2018 at the Downtown New Jersey Conference at New Jersey City University’s School of Business in Jersey City. The winning project features a new entrance sequence – an events plaza on Washington St., transparent Bamberger Entrance, and a distinctive ramp – improves the streetscape and draws people to the area. Inside, visitor orientation and renovated galleries reinforce the Museum’s contribution to the cultural, social and economic vitality of Newark.
