Construction begins at South Alex a new mixed-use development in Alexandria, VA


WASHINGTON, DC — Combined Properties, Incorporated announced that construction has commenced at South Alex, a $135 million, 502,000 s/f mixed-use development located in Alexandria. A groundbreaking event for the project took place yesterday and numerous dignitaries from Alexandria, Fairfax County, vendors for the project and community residents joined in the celebration. “South Alex is an exciting mixed-use development, destined to be a premier property in the market” said Ronald Haft, Chairman of Combined Properties. South Alex is a transit-oriented development that will feature 400 class A apartment units, nearly 23,000 s/f of small shop retail, and anchored by the 20,000 s/f ALDI. The project is prominently located less than a mile from the Huntington Metrorail station and is at the crossroads of N. Kings Highway and Route 1, providing great visibility and easy access to major highways. Demolition of the former Penn Daw Plaza shopping center, the site of the project, has been completed with construction beginning immediately. The project is slated for completion in 2021.
