Tell us how and when you began your career in the profession you are in, about your current position and why you choose the field/profession you are in today?
I started my own real estate development shop - Ernst Equities, LLC in March 2015 with a 3-unit acquisition in Shaw DC. Having leveraged a mortgage on my parent’s house to seed fund our first investment – we’ve since grown to over 100 apartments with retail/ mixed-use along Georgia Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue DC.
Ernst Equities, LLC is a real estate development firm that specializes in mixed-use, transit oriented projects. Our mission is to execute real estate investment opportunities that’ll provide robust, stable returns while generating long-term capital appreciation.
What is your greatest professional accomplishment?
Having closed on a 53-unit multifamily acquisition along Rhode Island Ave NE. The seller originally doubted my ability to execute TOPA given my age (27) and seemingly inexperience but was able to close quickly in December 2018. Since then – we’ve secured and cleaned the building and are projected to be 100% leased as of March 1, 2019. It’s great to see the positive impact in the lives of the residents – they are thrilled with the regained sense of safety and family environment.
