Marianne Payne, CPEA, CFSQA, Associate Principal with GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc.

Tell us how and when you began your career: I began my career in Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) compliance in the early 1990s as an Air Quality Specialist with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. I learned the regulatory framework of industrial facilities in sectors such as pharmaceutical, petroleum refining, printing & packaging, chemical, and a wide variety of manufacturing facilities.

What is your current position? I am an Associate Principal with GZA, working in both the Philadelphia, PA and Fairfield, NJ offices, specializing in EHS compliance. I am a Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA) with certification in Environmental Compliance, Management Systems, and Responsible Care. I am also a Certified Food Safety & Quality Auditor and an OSHA §1910 Authorized General Industry Trainer.

I work extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic states and with GZA clients who have a national footprint. I work directly with industrial and manufacturing clients on environmental permitting, auditing, and EHS compliance obligations at their facilities, including air compliance programs, regulatory reporting, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) programs, stormwater management, Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans, EHS training, and much more. I have also worked with a range of GZA clients—including attorneys, building owners and developers—on issues pertaining to their own regulatory obligations, or addressing EHS requirements resulting from the type of tenants occupying their properties, including stormwater management, life safety code compliance, and emergency response planning. I have also managed industrial hygiene projects and hazardous materials concerns, which are critical issues for building owners.
