Meet Laura L. Crimmins of The Blau & Berg Co.

Women in Business Q&A

Tell us how and when you began your career in the profession you are in:

I began my career with The Blau & Berg Company in 2009. This is a family business, initially run by my father who still maintains his role as CEO, and later joined by my brother who is the President and Broker of Record.

What is your current position?

I am an Executive Director at The Blau & Berg Company, licensed in New Jersey, New York, and Florida. My focus is commercial sales, leasing, and development.

Why did you choose the field/profession you are in today?

I grew up watching my father excel in the industrial real estate sector and attain lasting success, specifically within the trucking industry. His achievements were a great motivator for me, and it felt like a natural fit for me to join him in this field.

How do you manage the work/life balance?

Finding a daily balance between work and life is about being routine-oriented and adhering to a schedule. I like to exercise, so I have found that waking up at 5:30 gives me time before work to go to the gym. I think it’s important to stay ahead of everyday household tasks, because ignoring these responsibilities can lead to stress that will ultimately negatively influence my work effectiveness.

Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career?

My father and brother have been integral to my growth in this industry. They have imparted their decades of industry knowledge on me, which has been one of the keys to my success.

What unique qualities and or personality do you feel makes you most successful in your profession?

Understanding individual personalities is an important variable when it comes to sympathizing with the needs of my clients. Early in life, I developed a passion for the creative arts, something I still feel strongly about. Through years of dance, theatre, acting and later studying psychology, I learned how to balance my interactions with so many varied personalities and learn from them. The diversity of my background is foundational to the current relationships I have with my clients.

What activities do you enjoy during you free time?

Outside of work, I enjoy all forms of the arts, whether it’s going to the theatre or ballet, going to museums, or attending an art exhibit. I also have a passion for healthy eating and cooking.
