Hekemian & Company, Inc. to Break Ground On New 254-Unit Luxury Apartment Community in Hackensack, N.J.

The Current on River will be a “symbol of rebirth” for the city

HACKENSACK, New Jersey, Oct. 09, 2017 -- October 18th will mark the beginning of a new era in the revitalization of the city of Hackensack with the groundbreaking of The Current on River, a 254-unit luxury apartment complex on River Street in the heart of the city.

Hackensack Mayor John P. Labrosse Jr. will be present for the groundbreaking, along with other government officials, representatives from the city’s Main Street Business Alliance and representatives from Hekemian & Co., Inc., the New Jersey commercial real estate owner, developer and manager of this highly-anticipated project.

“This groundbreaking is another great step in the revitalization of Hackensack’s downtown,” said Bryan Hekemian, principal of Hekemian & Co. and a founding member of the city’s Main Street Business Alliance. “The Current on River will be a luxury apartment community that is in keeping with the vision of the city.”

The Current on River will be a 6-story complex on River Street, featuring 1 and 2-bedroom units ranging from 579 SF to 1,224 SF. The complex plans to offer elite amenities to its tenants, including:

Concierge service, an in-demand service offered at the hottest luxury buildings in NYC and New Jersey;

- An outdoor pool and lounge area;

- An outdoor courtyard complete with fireplaces, grilling stations and seating areas;

- An indoor club room for friends and family to gather and socialize;

-  A fitness center with the latest cardio and weightlifting equipment;

- Private balconies;

-  Dedicated bike storage and repair space for residents who choose bike travel;

- Seven levels of abundant on-site parking;

- A dog run and pet spa area to wash and groom pets;

- Conference rooms and work areas for work-from-home professionals and those with work-from-home flexibility;

- A game room outfitted with billiards and other in-demand and popular games;

- A coffee bar and wifi lounge

“The Current on River will truly be about life as you please,” Hekemian said.

Hekemian added that The Current on River will attract young professionals and commuters to NYC due to its proximity to public transportation – a 43-minute express bus to Manhattan is conveniently located near the complex.

“Hackensack is the natural next destination for millennials and young professionals looking for a beautiful place to call home without paying Manhattan’s prices, or even Hoboken’s prices,” Hekemian said. “As more people move out of Hoboken and Jersey City, cities like Hackensack are well-positioned to become the next ‘it’ place, complete with luxury housing, things to do, and places to eat – all within a bus ride or train from Manhattan.”

The Current on River is a key part of the ongoing redevelopment of downtown Hackensack. The city is in the midst of a $1 billion revitalization plan to bring jobs and commerce to its downtown Main Street area. The ambitious plan includes the planned construction of new housing, commercial space, retail stores, restaurants and a performing arts center.

Hekemian said that The Current on River will be a major contribution to the city’s redevelopment plans and a key moment marking the city’s transformation into one of New Jersey’s most in-demand places to live.

“Together with the Main Street Business Alliance, we are committed to the rebirth of this city,” Hekemian said. “My family has been a part of Hackensack for more than 80 years, and we are proud to be a part of a new chapter in the city’s Downtown.”
