Benchmark Construction’s Lastinger wins ABC ‘Instructor of the Year’

Brownstown, PA – William Lastinger, project superintendent from Benchmark Construction Company, Inc. in his last year as a Carpentry Instructor, was named the 2016 Associated Builders and Contractors, Keystone Chapter, Apprenticeship and Training Trust “Instructor of the Year.” Coincidentally, in 2006 as a first year Carpentry Instructor, Lastinger was co-winner of the “Instructor of the Year” award. “Receiving this award as bookends in my instructing career shows that I was able to adapt to changes in the curriculum and in the trade,” said Lastinger. “The award means my students respect me as an instructor and a professional in the trade. For the past 10 years, I’ve had the opportunity to teach students, through both classroom and hands-on instruction, the importance of the carpentry trade that will have an impact on the rest of their lives,” said Lastinger. n

Cindy DeWire, Director of Apprenticeship, ABC Keystone Apprenticeship and Training Trust, adds “ABC congratulates Bill Lastinger for his continued dedication as an apprenticeship instructor! Each year our students and apprenticeship committee evaluate all teachers. Bill has earned the ABC Keystone Apprenticeship and Training Trust ‘Instructor of the Year’ Award for going above and beyond expectations as he engages students when he presents the course material and incorporates hands-on projects in the curriculum. We are proud to have Bill on our team as we build the future workforce!”

Mr. Lastinger will continue his involvement in the ABC Keystone Chapter as a member of the Keystone Apprenticeship Committee. Mr. Lastinger is also involved with the National ABC organization through the National Craft Competition as a Carpentry Competition Project Manager as well as the Strategic Vice Chair of Leadership.
