Karly Iacono Associate Director Marcus & Millichap Years with company/firm: 4 Years in field: 14 Real estate affiliations: International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC)

What was your greatest professional accomplishment in 2017? I have closed over $77,000,000 in Net Leased properties since 2015 which is notable, but am on track to close another $47,000,000 million in deals in the next three months alone. Business is booming and our team is growing fast. What was your most notable project, deal or transaction in 2017? I recently brought an 11 property Walgreens Zero Cash Flow portfolio to market. It’s a complicated deal but we have some strong offers right out of the gate. How do you manage the work/life balance? I think most women put too much pressure on themselves to find this elusive balance. Work can be going great, your family can be in a good place, you can exercise regularly and take care of yourself but rarely do all three areas feel like they are on track at the same time. It’s always a push and pull. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career? My father is an outstanding Real Estate Broker. He has an amazing ability to anticipate a client’s needs and actions and move them through a deal more efficiently than I have ever seen. He taught me the Art of the Deal from a true foundation of integrity and client focus. What impact has social media / networking had on your business? CRE is all about relationships. Email, social media etc are all ways to start a relationship but nothing beats in person networking. What were some of your early goals and did anything happen in you career /profession to change them? Well, my goal as a child was to become President of the United States. Thankfully, after working for my State Senator in High School I wised up. What unique qualities and or personality do you feel makes you most successful in your profession? I actively pursue the complicated deals, the difficult clients, and the tough negotiations. Welcoming challenge and consistently pushing myself to achieve more keeps me ahead of the masses. What is the funniest, most unique situation you have faced during your business career? Planning team Halloween costumes is always fun. This year a conservative older member of our team sincerely suggested we all dress as different types of bugs. He chose a stuffed cockroach costume. That was unexpected. What outside activities do you enjoy during you free time? What do I wish I was enjoying? Hiking, running, biking, dancing in the rain…really anything that connects me to nature. I have plants all over my office but I still wish I was outside more than I am. What inspiring word of advice would you give to a young woman about to go into the field of commercial real estate or your allied field? Find a mentor you trust, don’t be intimidated by anyone and learn from the inevitable rejection and then let it go. In no other field will you find greater opportunity for financial success. Be thankful for this and work your *** off.
