“Accounting not only is a rewarding career, but it has many opportunities for growth”

Tell us how and when you began your career in the profession you are in: I started my career in public accounting in 1994 at a small boutique accounting firm which specialized in tax, accounting and consulting services for privately held businesses and high net worth individuals. What is your current position? I am a Senior Manager in Sax LLP’s Real Estate Niche. How do you manage the work/life balance? I see my personal life and my work life more like puzzle pieces that need to fit together. Neither demanding work deadlines or needs of a family can take a back seat. Who or what has been the strongest influence on your career? My children. I wanted to teach them the importance of working hard, having a rewarding career and being independent. What were some of your early goals and did anything happen in your career /profession to enhance or change them? Early on in my career I knew I wanted to be a partner in a CPA firm. I wouldn’t change anything about my life choices or career path, but the demands of raising a family have made it more difficult to achieve. I know I must work harder to achieve this goal. What challenges and or obstacles do you feel you needed to overcome to become as successful as you are today? When I started my career in the 90s, I was often the only woman and perhaps the youngest person in the room which can be intimidating. I had to work harder to prove myself and demonstrate my abilities to do the job.
