Hinerfeld CRE announces sale of former Marjol battery site

101-acre property positioned for future residential development

Throop, PA — Hinerfeld Commercial Real Estate announced the sale of a 101-acre property in Throop, formerly known as the Marjol Battery Federal Superfund Site.

The transaction represents a major milestone in the property’s evolution from a formerly contaminated industrial property to land positioned for future residential development. The former Marjol Battery site was remediated through a comprehensive environmental cleanup led by Gould Electronics, Inc., under the oversight of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP). On August 5, 2010, PADEP approved the final remedy, confirming completion of the remediation. Subsequent regulatory reviews have verified the continued effectiveness of the cleanup.

Located along the Lackawanna River in Throop, the approximately 101-acre property is expected to be developed into a residential community featuring new housing opportunities and preserved green space, contributing to the continued growth and revitalization of the surrounding area. The buyer, Pine Tree Properties 1 LLC, was represented by Colin Keefer of Hinerfeld Commercial Real Estate. The seller, Gould Electronics Inc., was represented by Bob Vanston of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Preferred Properties in Clarks Summit.
