Baltimore, MD – W. Thomas Fahs, Vice President – Predevelopment and Master Planning for COPT Defense Properties, has been elected to the Board of Directors of NAIOP Maryland. The local trade association, which has more than 400 members and represents the interests of the commercial real estate industry throughout the state, is part of NAIOP, a network of approximately 55 chapters in North America. NAIOP Maryland is comprised of commercial real estate development companies and professionals engaged with affiliated service companies including the architectural, brokerage, construction, interior design, and legal industries.
Fahs directs the development process on multiple land holdings, ground-up construction, and redevelopment projects situated throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This includes his efforts managing all development activities for The National Business Park, a 550-acre mixed-use business community in Anne Arundel County comprising more than 5.5 million square feet of space.
Fahs has nearly 30 years of directly-related real estate and construction management experience and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Arizona State University and a Master in Science in Real Estate and Commercial Real Estate Development from The Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. He joined COPT Defense Properties in 2006 and has also held development and construction project manager positions with various regional developers and general contractors, namely Concord Eastridge, James G. Davis Construction Corporation, and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. Fahs currently serves in his community with Howard County Youth Program (HCYP) and Elev8 Sports.
“COPT Defense Properties remains a long-term supporter and advocate of NAIOP Maryland because we understand the important role the Chapter plays to maintain the vibrancy of the commercial real estate sector in the state,” explained Fahs. “By assuming this leadership role, I am following the path taken by many current and past COPT Defense Properties professionals who worked tirelessly to support the efforts of NAIOP Maryland and improve the economic development climate in Maryland. My appointment to the board provides me with a compelling opportunity to add my business and commercial real estate perspectives and help advance the goals and objectives of NAIOP Maryland.”
